Advantages of a Rowing Machine for Weight Loss

If you’re currently very overweight, weight bearing exercise such as walking or running could put too much strain on your joints. The last thing you need when starting a fitness regime is an injury – you’re just not going to train if it hurts. But surely to burn those calories you have to work hard? If only there was a type of fitness equipment that lets you work hard without putting stress on your body.
Well of course there is! It’s the humble rowing machine.
Well in fact there’s two. There’s also the exercise bike, but if you have the room, a rower is better because it works more muscles and can burn more calories in the same workout time.
Advantages of a rower for losing weight:-

- Many types of rowing workouts keeps it interesting
- Most models are quiet
- Some models fold away for easy storage
- Burn more calories than other types of fitness equipment
- Can start even if very unfit
So let’s get the legal stuff out of the way. If you’re going to start a new regime, always check with your doctor first. So now let’s look at how you start.
One of the advantages mention above, is that anyone can row – even if very overweight or unfit (but remember to check the maximum user weight of the machine before you use it. If you’re self-conscious and don’t want to workout by walking or running outside, the rowing machine is an affordable way to workout in the home. Yes treadmills, elliptical trainers and exercise bikes are also an option – but they won’t work as many muscles as efficiently as a rowing machine.
You can start slowly and work on your technique before stepping up the pace. Then you need to vary your workouts so you don’t get bored and disinterested by doing the same thing over and over again.
I mentioned earlier about a bit of science to get you started on the right track. It’s not difficult. All you need to do is calculate what your maximum heart rate is for your age and this will give you the key to working out at the right level to get your heart pumping at a rate that will burn fat without it hurting.
